SOLO & SPECIAL PROJECTS

SOLO MUSIC

I perform as a soloist, presenting original songs as well as traditional, classical, and world music.  I'm often found sitting in with other groups, performing jazz, blues, various European styles, Central & South American styles, and anything that anyone will let me sit in on.

COMPOSITIONS

I also compose music for film, dance, and multi-disciplinary installations and performances.  This is very special work because it pushes me into new sonic territory, is rooted in collaboration, and allows me to grow my musical language.

  • In 2017, I wrote the music for Black Bois, a collaborative production with dancer/choreographer dani tirrell.

  • In 2023, curator Berette S Macaulay invited me to collaborate with other Seattle and New York based artists to create Untitled, a multi-disciplinary production showcasing music, dance, visual art, architecture, and storytelling.

  • In 2023, I collaborated with local artists, Naomi Bragin and Milvia Pachego to produce, Umamalengua Okan (Little Brown Language), weaving stories about land, language, memory and becoming.

  • In 2023, I was invited to work with dancer/choreographer Cipher Goings for a project, To Gather, at On The Boards, curated by David Rue and Nia-Amina Minor.

  • In 2023, one of my songs, Nuestro Rio, was used for a short documentary film, Tracing History, by Reaa Puri and Jalena Keane-Lee.

CREATIVE & CULTURAL CONSULTANT

I’ve worked to co-create and sustain safe, creative spaces that facilitate connection, community, and celebration through the arts. While my main professional reference point as an arts administrator has been in Seattle, WA, my life experience as a musician and folklorist has given me an entryway into the various modes that manifest in other cultures.

My professional experience is this realm has offered me a lot of insight.  I am founder of Community Arts Create, co-founder of the Hillman City Collaboratory, co-founder of Black & Tan Hall, and currently serve as the Artistic Director at NW Folklife.  I served on the Seattle Music Commission from 2017-2021, and I co-chair the Columbia Hillman Arts & Culture District.  Paired with an MBA in Arts Innovation, I'm keenly aware of what it takes to build and equip models for creative & cultural space.
